Delivery begins on Uni Connect programme

January 26, 2018

Following the November launch of our Uni Connect 2017/18 delivery schedule at Havering College, we have begun delivery of outreach activities in our partner schools in Barking and Dagenham and Havering.

Delivery commenced in the last few weeks of the winter term with learners taking part in activities introducing them to Uni Connect and higher education subjects. Member higher education institutions Ravensbourne and Royal Veterinary College delivered taster sessions covering STEAM topics, such as transformative design and science such as veterinary medicine and biosciences.

Our schedule for this term is now underway. Two of our sixth form Uni Connect cohorts are taking part in a mentoring scheme run by the London School of Economics, while other cohorts will have the opportunity to experience a variety of exciting higher level learning focused activities delivered primarily by our member HEIs. Planned sessions range from those aimed at providing learners with a taste of higher level learning courses, such as law and engineering, to those which aim to provide learners with the skills to navigate their future educational and career options.

Our own mentoring programme, which will see student ambassadors working with Uni Connect learners covering the themes embedded in our programme in more depth, is currently being scheduled in schools and we are holding another training session for prospective mentors at the end of this month.

It’s a busy time for the AccessHE London Uni Connect team and we continue to work with our partner schools and member HEIs to make the programme a success for the learners involved. Stay tuned for more updates as the programme progresses!
