Care Experienced and Estranged Students forum

The first meeting of the academic year is kindly being hosted by Lewisham’s Leaving Care Service and will feature an extended agenda item on how universities, local authorities and their virtual schools can best work together to support students to progress to and succeed in higher education. Forum members will hear from Melanie Aarons Royal from Lewisham Leaving Care Service and Bronagh Maginn from Lewisham Virtual School. We expect to welcome a number of other staff members working within local authorities and virtual schools across London to contribute to the discussion.

To best inform the direction and scope of the session, we are inviting our HEI and partner forum members to submit questions, comments and identify any ‘knowledge gaps’ in advance of the meeting. If you would like to do so, there is a section on the registration form for these contributions.

In addition, the meeting will also include:

  • – a presentation from the Student Loans Company on updates to support for vulnerable students;
  • – a discussion of forum themes and outputs for 2017-18 based on member feedback; and
  • – an update on the Life After University event to be held in February 2018.

Please see a draft agenda for the meeting.

If you are able to attend, please register by 5pm on Tuesday 10 October 2017. If you are unable to attend or to send a colleague in your place you can send your apologies by replying to this email. A final agenda and any papers will be sent a week in advance of the meeting.
