12 January 2017

Disability forum

The first hour will be an optional training opportunity for colleagues and the forum meeting will officially begin at 2pm. Responding to a request from forum members, we are delighted to be joined by Dr Melanie Thorley who will be delivering a session on chronic illness and chronic pain. Melanie is the *AccessAbility Project Coordinator at the University of Greenwich. The project is a disability and diversity focused initiative which provides information and guidance to disabled and diverse students who may not feel university is for them, or who have concerns about going to university.

The forum meeting will then begin at 2pm. To begin with, colleagues will receive an ever important update on the changes to the Disabled Students’ Allowance. The meeting will then continue by taking forward the action points agreed at the last meeting at which they confirmed the focus for the forum for the academic year. The group will be delivering a joint event for practitioners’ and Year 12 students in Summer 2017 on the topic of assistive technology and colleagues will start to devise a programme for this, due to be hosted by the University of Greenwich. The forum will also review and develop an open day resource for students which will feature questions for students to ask HEIs when attending open days. Please see a draft agenda for this meeting.

If you are able to attend then please register by 5pm on Wednesday 4 January 2016.
