Young Lecturers Programme
Young people want to feel confident about advancing to further or higher education. The Young Lecturers Programme offers the ideal blend of youth activism, skills development and HE Readiness activity to help support that.
This program is designed to prepare participants for their future academic and professional paths, but also to show them how they can use their voice to effect positive change.
This six-week program provides year 12 students with the opportunity to research, write and deliver university-style lectures on topics important to them and their peers locally. Students are supported through a range of workshops, including a dedicated on-campus session with a university lecturer in the AccessHE membership, who will help them master the art of giving a lecture. This also provides students with a glimpse into the enriching experience of studying at university.
Through participating in the programme, students gain the following skills and knowledge:
- Effective communication, to build confidence and foster productive interactions.
- Presentation skills, to enhance public speaking.
- Lecturing and facilitating educational sessions.
- Awareness of what it takes to succeed in higher education and other post-18 routes.
The programme culminates in a public event at which the student lectures are professionally filmed. We share the video content with our wide network, aiming to start the conversation for change.
