Following on from the success of the April Year 8 STEM Expo held at London Metropolitan University earlier this year, staff from one school that attended – Alperton Community School, Brent – were so impressed by the event that they offered to host a repeat Expo on their premises. AccessHE followed the school up on this offer and invited schools from Brent, Ealing and Harrow to their first ‘Access to HE Local Forum’ meeting to plan and discuss the format and content of the Expo. Staff from the schools heard from representatives from London Metropolitan University, Middlesex University London, Royal Veterinary College and the University of Hull about the types of STEM workshops they could deliver. An extremely positive discussion during the meeting resulted in the schools committing to bring their Year 8s (FSM/PPG) to a STEM Expo to be held at the school in mid-November.
