Higher Education Experience Days for our Uni Connect learners

June 30, 2017

Year 10 students take part in a stress relief workshop delivered by LSBU’s Confucius Institute.

Over the last month we have been continuing the delivery of our Uni Connect pilot programme, which is working with Year 10 and 12 students across six schools in the London Boroughs of Barking and Dagenham and Havering.

The highlight of the month has been the two events we held for our Uni Connect cohorts. The first, a Higher Education Day for Year 12s, was hosted by All Saints Catholic School in Barking and Dagenham and saw learners take part in workshops delivered by Ravensbourne and UCA on creative higher education, writing personal statements and options in higher level learning.

The second event was held at London South Bank University and brought together both Year 10 and Year 12 Uni Connect learners to get a taste of life on a university campus. The Year 10 students had the opportunity to go on a campus tour with student ambassadors as well as take part in a stress relief workshop, delivered by LSBU’s Confucius Institute. The Year 12 programme focussed on applying to HE with sessions covering course options, student finance and student life.

In total 52 learners from four of our Uni Connect partner schools attended the events. AccessHE would like to thank all that attended and supported the events, from the HEIs, the school staff and the learners themselves. We are now into the final weeks of the pilot phase before the summer break and planning is already underway for our 2017/18 Uni Connect programme.
