Who We Are
Who/what is AccessHE?
Founded in 2011 and a key division of London Higher, AccessHE is the pan-London organisation driving the access and participation agenda in London. We exist to support underrepresented student groups to access, succeed in and progress out of Higher Education (HE). Our small and specialist team does this through adopting a full student lifecycle approach (access — retention — success — progression) to the development and delivery of projects, events, research and other initiatives which enable our Member HE institutions (HEIs), Advocates network of schools, colleges, local authorities and sector partners to achieve their objectives more efficiently and effectively.
In line with the direction the HE sector is heading and new access and participation targets set for HEIs by the HE regulator in England, the Office For Students (OfS), our work is taking an increased focus on the ‘progression’ stage of the student lifecycle around further study and highly skilled employment. As such, we are working closely with employers on various projects as we seek to our expand such networks.
What is our vision?
Our vision embodies our commitment to greater equality in HE access and participation:
Higher Education and the opportunities it provides can be accessed by anyone in London who has the ability and desire to attend, regardless of their background, circumstance or characteristics.
AccessHE has a Steering Group, reporting to the London Higher Board, comprised of representatives from the HE, school and college sectors. As a self-sustaining, membership-based organisation, AccessHE is primarily funded through Member HEI subscriptions. AccessHE currently has 20+ HEI Members and supports an Advocates network of 200+ schools and colleges.
