AccessHE London Uni Connect Week of Action (4-8 June)

May 31, 2018

The Uni Connect Week of Action commences next week (4-8 June) and we have plenty of activities planned with our AccessHE London Uni Connect learners. The week will commence on Monday 4 June where our Student Ambassadors, drawn from London Metropolitan University, University College London and the University for the Creative Arts, will be delivering a mentoring session to Year 10 learners at Marshalls Park Academy in Havering.

On Monday the London Uni Connect team will also be training Student Ambassadors from Rose Bruford College to deliver Brunel University London’s AccessHE Online Course ‘Adventure University’. This blended learning model forms part of the Year 9s programme, with the online course encouraging Year 9 learners to think about their future and increase their knowledge of the options available to them after secondary school.

On Tuesday, PhD student Reisha Hull from London South Bank University will be delivering an insightful Psychology workshop to Year 12 learners at Drapers’ Academy in Havering. Tuesday will also see London Uni Connect Researcher Dr Tuba Mazhari conducting Year 12 focus groups at The Sydney Russell School in Barking & Dagenham, with additional groups at All Saints Catholic School in Barking & Dagenham the following day.

Also on Wednesday, Year 12 learners from The Sydney Russell School will partake in Dr Stuart Isaacs’ (Professor at The University of West London) introduction to social sciences with a further focus on social problems and issues. On Thursday design tutor Daniel Tollady from The University for the Creative Arts will be delivering a creative workshop to Year 10 learners from Drapers’ Academy, Havering focusing on Utopian Cities and thinking about how to push the boundaries of design-thinking.

The week will end on Friday with an exciting university visit to St Mary’s University, Twickenham. The aim of this visit is to give Year 10 and Year 12 learners a glimpse into university life, raise their aspirations as well as inform them about the variety of pathways into higher education and further career options. Learners from Bower Park Academy in Havering and All Saints Catholic School and The Sydney Russell School will be taking part.
