Care Leavers Covenant

June 8, 2016

In the Queen’s speech, her Majesty announced new legislation, a Care Leavers Covenant, which will ensure children leaving care have better support.

Further details of this support are still to be released but it will require local authorities to clearly outline to care leavers the services they are entitled to.  It was also proposed that every care leaver who wants one would have the right to a Personal Adviser up to the age of 25, providing vital support as they transition into adulthood.

AccessHE welcomes greater support for care leavers and are hoping to work with Drive Forward in the coming months.  For their reaction to the Queen’s speech, please visit the Drive Forward website.
