Disability Forum

This event is now over, you will find a summary below.

The first hour of this meeting presented colleagues with an optional training opportunity and the forum meeting began at 2pm.  For the first training session of the academic year, AccessHE invited a colleague from Ai-Media, a captioning company dedicated to ending the experience of social, educational and vocational exclusion, to talk to practitioners about autism.

The forum meeting then began at 2pm. The meeting revisited the current situation with regards to the Disabled Students’ Allowance and the group considered what they can do collectively to communicate these changes to students. The topic was covered in depth at the Disability practitioners’ conference in July, and following its successful delivery, the forum reviewed the event and its feedback. The topical discussion focused on the two recently published HEFCE reports looking at supporting disabled students. The reports can be found at http://www.hefce.ac.uk/sas/inequality/disabled/.  The group finally discussed the work of the forum and its objectives for 2015/16.
