Next month, students from six schools in Barking & Dagenham and Havering will be taking part in the pilot programme of the AccessHE London Uni Connect.
The programme, which is part a HEFCE funded initiative to improve higher education progression rates in specific areas of the country, will see learners in years 10 and 12 take part in a range of attainment raising and information, advice and guidance activities delivered by the AccessHE Uni Connect Schools Officer and some of our HEI members. This pilot, which will run between May and July will act as a precursor to the introduction of a full programme for learners from year groups 10-13, beginning in the new academic year.
Both the pilot and the full programme will be robustly evaluated, in order to measure the impact of the activities. We will be using randomised and matched control trials in order to see whether being part of interventions has an influence on progression to higher level learning. These will be undertaken by the appointed London Uni Connect Research Officer, Dr Nienke Alberts.
