Primary Futures

As primary students transition into secondary school, it’s not uncommon for them to lose some of that early spark and motivation. It is a crucial moment where the right encouragement can make all the difference. That’s why stepping in at this key stage of their educational journey is so important. Evidence suggests that early intervention can also be decisive in widening access to higher education.

Primary Futures is an opportunity for Year 6 pupils to dive into a world of possibilities and explore a range of careers and study pathways. The pupils spend six weeks exploring what they could be when they grow up – from scientists to artists, engineers to entrepreneurs – as well as how they get there. This programme is all about helping them expand their horizons.

But it’s not just about learning what jobs are out there; it’s about sparking curiosity and building the confidence to dream big. Throughout the programme, pupils will pick up valuable knowledge and soft skills that will help them in school, in life, and beyond.

The program offers students a wide range of sessions and workshops covering the following topics:

  • Exploring Careers: Students will get an inside look at a variety of local careers and opportunities across different sectors.
  • Understanding Higher Education: They’ll learn what higher education is all about and what it’s like to experience life at university.
  • Inspiring Journeys: higher education ambassadors share their own stories, offering insights into their paths and answering students’ questions.
  • Building Resilience: Through interactive resilience workshops, students will develop essential soft skills like independence and resilience, helping them confidently transition into secondary school and beyond.

During the final two weeks of the programme, pupils will be asked to write and present a letter to their future selves, based on the theory of possible selves. It’s a chance for them to set their sights on the future and imagine all the incredible possibilities that lie ahead.

We also want to bring parents into the conversation, helping them understand how Higher Education can open doors for their child. Through an online Q&A session, parents will have the opportunity to learn about the many benefits of Higher Education and how it can shape their child’s future.
