Supporting access to Higher Education for Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children

December 20, 2016

AccessHE is currently undertaking research that looks at access to higher education for Unaccompanied Asylum Seeker Children (UASC).  This research will explore the barriers for UASC accessing higher education, the support available to UASC in accessing higher education and what HEIs are doing in terms of outreach work targeted at UASC.  To inform this research, we are talking to HEIs, UASC, local authorities, and charities.  In addition to this, Dr Nienke Alberts, AccessHE’s research officer conducted focus groups with students at two of our member HEIs last week.

Our findings will be presented in a report that will be published in January 2017 and shared with our member HEIs, policy advisers and education stakeholders. The research will give us important insights into how we can improve access and support for UASC.
